V — Computations and Assumptions
The centerline formation rises at from 100.000 m at Sta. 0+000, with a symmetric crossfall:
Example at Sta. 0+020, offset :
At Sta. 0+020, each sign-changing strip is split at the interpolated zero crossing before cut and fill areas are summed. Cut and fill are not netted within the mixed section.
Average End Area:
First-interval cut volume:
Net geometric balance:
Assumptions and conventions:
- Left offsets are negative and right offsets are positive.
- Positive ground-minus-formation is cut; negative is fill.
- Ground changes linearly between measured offsets for trapezoidal area computation.
- Volumes use the Average End Area method over 20.000 m intervals.
- No shrinkage, swell, stripping, topsoil, or unsuitable-material factor is applied.
- Reported volumes use unrounded section areas; the area table is rounded to three decimals.
- Existing-ground observations remain separate from computed formation elevations and quantities.
VI — Remarks and Conclusions
A — Remarks
- The alignment transitions from predominantly cut to fill.
- Offset stationing, rod plumbing, interpolation across irregular ground, and missed break points are probable error sources.
- Material factors are excluded; quantities are geometric only.
- Mixed cut/fill at Sta. 0+020 was split at zero crossings.
B — Conclusion
The calculated geometric totals are 34.413 m³ cut and 44.313 m³ fill, giving 9.900 m³ fill excess under the Average End Area method. These values do not include construction material adjustment factors.
