V — Computations and Assumptions

For a vertical rod and inclined sight:

s=U−Ls=U-L H=Kscos⁡2θ+Ccos⁡θH=Ks\cos^2\theta+C\cos\theta V=Ks2sin⁡2θ+Csin⁡θV=\frac{Ks}{2}\sin 2\theta+C\sin\theta

Representative P-01 reduction:

s=1.842−1.222=0.620 ms=1.842-1.222=0.620\text{ m} H=100(0.620)cos⁡2(5∘20′)=61.464 mH=100(0.620)\cos^2(5^\circ20')=61.464\text{ m} EP01=100.000+1.500+5.738−1.532=105.706 mE_{P01}=100.000+1.500+5.738-1.532=105.706\text{ m}

Independent difference:

% difference=∣61.464−61.480∣61.480(100)=0.026%\%\text{ difference}=\frac{|61.464-61.480|}{61.480}(100)=0.026\%

Assumptions and conventions:

  • The stadia rod is vertical at each target.
  • K=100K=100 and C=0.000 mC=0.000\text{ m} are adopted instrument constants.
  • Positive vertical angle is uphill; negative is downhill.
  • The middle-hair reading is retained in every elevation computation.
  • No curvature/refraction correction is applied at these classroom distances.

VI — Remarks and Conclusions

A — Remarks

  • The three sights demonstrate uphill, downhill, and horizontal reductions.
  • Rod plumbing, stadia-hair interpolation, vertical-angle reading, and instrument-height measurement are probable error sources.
  • The taped check is independent and does not overwrite the tacheometric result.

B — Conclusion

The reduced horizontal distances are 61.464 m, 47.747 m, and 55.000 m for P-01 through P-03. The P-01 result differs from the taped reference by 0.016 m (0.026%), supporting the internal consistency of the model observations.
